Warzone’s upcoming new battle royale map has reportedly been delayed, and players blame last-gen consoles.
It’s been a long time since we last saw Warzone introduce a new standard map. Area 99 launched as a new Resurgence map in November 2024, but Urzikstan was the last traditional battle royale map to be added, way back in December 2023.
Verdansk sort of breaks that streak, as leaks suggest that Warzone’s original map will return in Season 3, which we expect to start on March 20.

This is excellent news for longtime series veterans who are excited to relive the iconic location and for new players who didn’t get a chance to experience it the first time around.
However, some players also expected a brand new environment to explore during Black Ops 6’s life cycle, but those plans have reportedly changed.

Avalon is expected to arrive in late 2025 alongside the next Call of Duty game. However, TheGhostOfHope reported that Avalon “may potentially be postponed from its original late 2025 release or completely canned from Warzone because of Verdansk’s return.”

Supporting last-gen in 2025 is a wild decision, but the game is in development for the old consoles, from what we’ve heard. This may be a reason as to why there can’t be two big maps in Warzone at same time.”

Fans slammed the developers for allegedly prioritizing an old console over releasing new content.
One frustrated player asked, “Why are we still supporting consoles from 12 years ago?”

This wouldn’t be the first new map delayed either. Ural Mountains was a rumored map that was never released in Call of Duty: Cold War, and Las Almas never came to Modern Warfare 2 despite being leaked.
Hopefully, Verdansk is enough to hold players over because it appears that there will still be a long wait before the next new standard battle royale map.
